Sport Massage is the application of massage and specialised techniques to balance active and reactive muscles. Massage is the scientific art and system of the assessment of and the manual application to the superficial soft tissue of skin, muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments and structures that lie within the superficial tissue, by using the hand, foot, knee, arm, elbow and forearm through the systematic application of touch, stroking (effleurage, friction, vibration, percussion, kneading, petrissage, stretching, compression or passive and active joint movements within the normal physiologic range of motion. This is done by a therapist, who has knowledge of specific sport activities in which the client participates in, therefor therapist has a clear understanding of which muscles may be prone to excessive use as well as being prone to injuries.
